The College Football Season is rolling along and this week marks the first week where the Conference Matchups really heat up. Along with that it is also far enough into the season where teams start to believe that they have a shot at a BCS Bowl birth. Especially when it comes to teams that roll into this week unbeaten at 5-0. However, for the bettor the important thing is whether or not these teams can add to their bankroll. As I have written many times in the past it's important to understand historical trends and factor those into your handicapping. So let's take a look at a bit of history on teams that go into their 6th game of the season at 5-0.

Since 1980 teams who roll into this week at 5-0 are 223-98-6 SU but only 133-163-6 ATS. Teams who fall into this role this week are Alabama, Ball State, Penn State, South Florida and Utah.

To further tighten the situations make them a favorite of 28 or less points and the mark drops to 30-63 ATS. Having them play an opponent who is off an ATS loss of 12 or more points in their last game and the mark falls to a horrible 7-29 ATS. This narrows our search to Ball State and Penn State this week.

In the never ending quest to find the best advantage let's take this same favorite of 28 or less points and put them against a conference opponent who is off an ATS loss of 12 or more points and viola...they are only 4-23 ATS! So if you want to not drain your bankroll this weekend it's best to stay away or go against Ball State and Penn State.
